**This is an encore edition of Soundcheck**
Parquet Courts exploded into New York music fans’ collective consciousness in early 2013, with the release of their blistering post-punk LP, Light Up Gold. The album earned them a mention in Soundcheck host John Schaefer’s “Top Ten Reasons Why New York Music Ruled The World In 2013.” Later that year, the four-piece band followed up with the EP Tally All The Things That You Broke.
For one night in April 2014, Soundcheck and the concert calendar Web site Oh My Rockness joined forces to present Gigstock, a mini-festival featuring Parquet Courts and The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. At the time, Parquet Courts was readying the release of their sophomore full-length, Sunbathing Animal, which went on to make numerous year-end best-of lists—including a lengthy write-up from SPIN, which named Parquet Courts their Band of the Year. And in late 2014, the group (stylized as "Parkay Quarts") surprised fans with another full-length record, the equally-thrilling Content Nausea. All in all, the last 12 months have been a rocket ascent for the New York band, and Soundcheck caught them live, mid-launch.
Watch the band preview material from the yet-to-be released Sunbathing Animals, as well as a few favorites, live in the Greene Space at WNYC.
