Hilton Als Speaks with Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams wanted to be an actor from a young age; she says, “I knew I could use somebody else’s words to communicate feelings that were confusing to me.” But she spent two years auditioning before she ever landed a role. Now she’s starring on Broadway in “Blackbird,” a play about a young woman confronting the man who sexually molested her as a child. Williams spoke with the New Yorker theatre critic Hilton Als about the show, why the gruelling role makes her feel alive, and why she can’t imagine any other life for herself.
