A History of American Wiretapping

From May 13, 1966, this telephone de-bugging meter discovers any transmitter (bug) in the phone or in the lines leading to it.

Brian Hochman, professor of English and American Studies at Georgetown University, takes us through the history of surveillence and how it's become commonplace in recent years. His new book is The Listeners: A History of Wiretapping in the United States.

This segment is guest-hosted by WNYC's Matt Katz.
