Leslie Jamison discusses her memoir, The Recovering: Intoxication and Its Aftermath. She tells stories of addiction - both her own and others' - and examines the expectations we have of addiction narratives. She also offers a close look at the larger history of the recovery movement and at the roles that race and class play in our understanding of who is criminal and who is ill.
