Mina Tindle, Kate Stables, Emma Broughton, Melissa Laveaux – "22nd Century" (Weekly Music Roundup)

The singers Mina Tindle, Kate Stables, Emma Broughton, and Melissa Laveaux are all part of the wide circle of musical friends who got together in Berlin in 2018 for a multi-day festival under the name People. A celebration of one-time, often unexpected collaborations, the People Festival produced so much good music that they couldn’t release it all back then. Now, these four singers – from France, Haiti, and the UK – are finally issuing their cover of the song “22nd Century,” which they learned from the 50-year old Nina Simone version. Its strange, apocalyptic lyrics seem prophetic all these years later.

"22nd Century," originally by the Afro-Bahamian musician Exuma, covered first by Nina Simone and now sung here by Mina Tindle, Kate Stables, Emma Broughton, and Melissa Laveaux, is part of our Weekly Music Roundup
