The MTA During COVID-19: Nine MTA Workers Have Died, Overcrowding Concerns, and Now Fewer Trains

A Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) subway train runs above ground with fewer riders than usual, as state and city officials urged people to stay home amid the COVID-19 outbreak 3/18/20.

While much of life in New York City has ground to a halt, the MTA has continued to operate, but it's been tough. Nine of its workers have died from COVID-19, and nearly 600 have tested positive. The agency is running reduced service across the system, which many essential workers still rely on public transit to get to work. WNYC’s transportation reporter Stephen Nessen discusses the latest.
