The MTA says it was among several organizations hacked on April 20. The intrusion, which reportedly has links to China, was first covered by the New York Times, and the MTA says the hack had no impact, but it's beefed up its security since.
On the day of the breech, federal officials alerted the MTA that it had been hacked and recommended some immediate fixes to its computer system.
The MTA then hired two cyber security companies to conduct an audit. They found no evidence of any disruptions or stolen data.
The MTA said this shows its existing security system is working as designed. Still, the agency said it’s working with experts to add further protections to its computer network.
