Governor-elect Phil Murphy picked longtime politico Pete Cammarano to serve as chief of staff.
It's the same role Cammarano had under Governor Dick Codey, from 2004 to 2006. Before that, he spent 10 years working in the New Jersey Senate as Cody's chief of staff.
Cammarano is considered a veteran Trenton insider, with experience at the Department of Insurance, working for the late Frank Lautenberg campaign in 1994, and as the current mayor of Metuchen. He's not related to another Peter Cammarano, the former Hoboken mayor who went to prison for corruption.
Murphy has also announced that his Lt. Governor, Sheila Oliver, will head the Department of Community Affairs. And last week, he appointed Jose Lozano to lead his transition team. Lozano is a vice president at Hackensack Meridian Health and worked on Jon Corzine's transition team.
Murphy's transition team has 16 committees, and he said the leadership is majority-minority and majority-women.
"I pledged to build my administration to mirror the diversity, talent, and potential of New Jersey, and my transition will be no different," the Governor-elect said.
