Name a Roach This Valentine's Day

Two Romantic Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches

This Valentine's Day, you can name a Bronx Zoo Madagascar hissing cockroach after a loved one. The Name-a-Roach program started in 2011 and more than 5-thousand roaches have been named since then.

John Calvelli, spokesman for the Wildlife Conservation Society, said the 4-inch insect is the perfect $10 gift for this time of the year.

"Flowers wither, chocolate will melt, but cockroaches are forever," Calvelli said.

Cockroaches are the ultimate survivors. These insects date back to the time of the dinosaurs and can adapt to any environment. Calvelli said, "They are going to be around for a very, very long time. And we want our love to be around just as long."

Proceeds from the Name-a-Roach program go to the Wildlife Conservation Society.
