NYC Mandates Vaccination For Public School Staff

All public school staff — including teachers, custodians, food workers and contractors — must show proof they've received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by September 27th. Classes resume two weeks earlier on the 13th. The new mandate goes further than the policy Mayor Bill de Blasio announced earlier this summer for ALL city workers, including teachers, which requires vaccination or weekly testing. And it coincides with the FDA granting full approval to the Pfizer vaccine. In response, the teachers union said most of its members are already vaccinated and are committed to keeping schools safe; it's promising to work through the details with the city. The mayor has not said what the consequences will be for school staff who choose not to be vaccinated.
