Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday that the people who were injured in last week's explosion and building collapse in the East Village are recovering well. About two dozen were hurt, including four who were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
“We were very worried about each and every one of them, but thank god, three out, one more still in the hospital but doing well,” the Mayor said.
The mayor did not name the injured.
The city has identified one of two bodies pulled from the rubble as 23-year-old Nicholas Figueroa. Medical examiners are still waiting for DNA analysis on the second body. Restaurant worker Moises Locon was reported missing after the blast.
The mayor said the Manhattan District Attorney, Cyrus Vance, Jr., will have to decide if the explosion was the result of criminal activity and whether to bring charges.
