In April, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice quietly issued a new rule prohibiting inmates from maintaining social media accounts through a third party or otherwise. This brings Texas into league with states like South Carolina, New Mexico, Maine and Alabama, all of which have similar rules on the books aimed at curbing digital presences for prisoners. Dave Maass, Investigative Researcher at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, talks with Bob about where these rules come from and what their implications are for prisoners and their advocates.
