New York City's Civilian Complaint Review Board has recommended its most serious course of action in the case of a police officer who tackled former tennis pro James Blake. The board is recommending an administrative trial, which could lead to Officer James Frascatore losing his job.
The board substantiated two claims made by Blake's lawyer in last month's incident — abuse of authority against Frascatore and use of force against Detective Daniel Herzog, who arrested Blake.
A video of the encounter showed Frascatore grabbing Blake by the arm and roughly taking him to the ground.
An investigation by WNYC last year found a history of civilian complaints against Frascatore.
The board's recommendation in the Blake case now goes to Commissioner Bratton.
In a statement responding to the CCRB decision, Patrick Lynch, President of the Police Benevolent Association, said the technique the officer used on Blake was acceptable, and he'll be vindicated.
