Behind the Scenes in Music. [1947-12-17], Ruth Freeman, Flutess
Summary: "Every Wednesday, 6 to 6:45 PM, this program enables the layman to learn what takes place at an orchestral rehearsal. Through the informality of these broadcasts, which pick up an actual rehearsal, listeners learn how a conductor guides his players in an ensemble, how he interprets a composition according to the intent of the composer, and how orchestral effects are achieved.

In a comparison of attempt and improvement under rehearsal conditions, the listener enters into the subtleties of appreciation and carries away more than the pleasure of a single performance. The whole scheme comprises seven series and a number of single programs. Concerts with young artists as soloists constitute the material of the broadcasts. They provide for deserving young aspirants, the valuable and often unobtainable experience of practice with a symphonic group. The composer is frequently a guest at the rehearsal."--1947 Peabody Digest.
