On the heels of his announcement that he's not running for re-election, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has endorsed New York Senator Chuck Schumer to succeed him.
In an interview, the Nevada Democrat said the Senate's current number two, Richard Durbin of Illinois, would stand down to clear the way for Schumer to become minority leader, according to The Washington Post. The Post reports Durbin and Reid discussed the situation by phone earlier in the day.
Reid announced Friday he will not seek re-election after a nearly 30-year career in the Senate.
