Study Says Motorcycle Lane Splitting Is Safe

It may seem risky, but researchers at the University of California Berkeley say it’s relatively safe for motorcycle riders to ride between lanes of traffic.

The practice, which some drivers complain about, is only legal in California, where it’s common on freeways when there’s gridlock. The study says lane splitting is only dangerous, or more risky, if the motorcycle is traveling 10 miles per hour or more faster than the vehicle traffic.
