Textbook Politics

After receiving complaints, book publisher McGraw-Hill has decided to change the language in a geography textbook that describes slaves as workers and immigrants.

Dana Goldstein, education reporter for The New York Times and the author of The Teacher Wars: A History of America's Most Embattled Profession (Doubleday, 2014), read thousands of pages of American History textbooks to find differences in what students are taught in different states. She reports on how the politics of California and Texas affected what publishers included in textbooks for students in those states.
