It’s Tony Week, so if you haven’t seen them, check out the nominees for best New Musical and Best Revival of a Musical before the winners are announced:

An American in Paris @ The Palace Theatre (New York, NY) Nominated in almost every Tony musical category, An American in Paris, is a magnificent adaption of the 1951 MGM movie. Like the movie, the show highlights the music of George Gershwin through song and dance. It features timeless Gershwin standards including: “I’ve Got Rhythm”, “‘S Wonderful” and “They Can’t Take that Away from Me”. Fun Home @ Circle in the Square (New York, NY) Tied with An American in Paris for twelve Tony Nominations, Fun Home is innovative new musical. It has set the record for having three actresses all nominated as the same character. The King and I @ Lincoln Center Theater (New York, NY) Broadway’s Kelli O’Hara & television’s own Ken Watanabe are both up for Tony awards! The actors are nominated for Best Leading Roles, for their portrayals of Anna Leonowens and the King of Siam in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I.  Be sure to catch this beautiful score, featuring treasures like “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Getting to Know You” and “Shall We Dance.” See link for tickets and times. http://www.lct.org/shows/king-and-i/

On the 20th Century @ American Airlines Theatre (New York, NY) With a score by Cy Coleman and direction by Harold Prince this 1978 musical won five Tony’s including Best Book and Best Original Score. Now the show is nominated for another five including Best Revival of a Musical.  Folks are flocking to see Kristin Chenoweth with her hilarious portrayal of Lily Garland. On the Town @ Lyric Theatre (New York, NY) The show, featuring music by Leonard Bernstein, debuted in 1944 and is nominated for four Tony’s including Best Musical Revival.  This musical tells the story of three sailors Ozzie, Chip, and Gabey as they venture through New York City. The show features the timeless song “New York, New York” and many more show stopping tunes. Something Rotten @ St. James Theatre (New York, NY) Something Rotten must not be that bad for it is nominated for ten Tony’s this year (including Best Original Score). A musical written by real-life brothers Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick, it tells the tale of fictional brothers writing a musical way before the time of the Tonys. Set in the 1590s, Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit, and with William Shakespeare as their competition, they decide to write the world’s very first musical. The Visit @ Lyceum Theatre (New York, NY) After a 13-year journey, this Broadway production of John Kander and Fred Ebb’s final collaboration, is nominated for Best Musical and Original Score. More than ten years after his death it will be an interesting win if Fred Ebb and his partner John Kander can win for Best Original score on Sunday.
