Tracing Contemporary Music's Evolution with Steve Reich

Steve Reich curated a Carnegie Hall concert series that shows how contemporary music has changed over the last half century.

Steve Reich was part of the first generation of composers to rebel against the increasing complexity of 20th century classical music.

"By the time I got to into late 50s, and growing up musically, the tradition it becomes so difficult to follow that only a few music lovers really want to hear it," Reich told WNYC’s John Schaefer.

Now, the Pulitzer Prize winning composer has curated a set of four concerts at Carnegie Hall that show how contemporary music has changed over the last half century. The series, called "Three Generations," kicks off Mar. 30.
