This special edition of All Of It is dedicated entirely to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. We've curated a series of interviews about the legacy of Woodstock, as well as the largely ignored story of New York's other major festival that summer, Black Woodstock, with guests including producers and archivists, along with performers who were there in 1969.
We've also got an exclusive collection of Woodstock-themed covers. Over the last several weeks, we've asked musicians who were guests on our show to pick an artist who performed at Woodstock or Black Woodstock, and record one of their songs to feature in this special episode. Here's the result: two hours of peace and music.
Take a listen. We think it's pretty groovy.
The interviews:
Music historian and producer Andy Zax joins to talk about "Woodstock - Back To The Garden: The Definitive 50th Anniversary Archive," a 38-disc set of virtually all the sounds of Woodstock 1969.
Neal Ludevig, curator and co-producer of the Black Woodstock 50th Anniversary concert, Freddie Stone, co-founder and lead guitarist of Sly and the Family Stone, and jazz musician and trumpet player Keyon Harrold join to talk about the legacy of Black Woodstock and how it's been largely forgotten by history, and to preview the 50th Anniversary Concert, which takes place August 17 at Marcus Garvey Park. Freddie Stone performed with Sly and the Family Stone at the original Black Woodstock and is featured at this year's concert. Keyon Harrold is also performing at the Black Woodstock 50th Anniversary concert.
New York Public Radio's director of archives, Andy Lanset, joins us for this week’s installment of our ongoing series, “Andy in the Archives” -- Woodstock edition.
