Two of 'The Brilliant Ten' Scientists

Roxana Geambasu, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University

Roxana Geambasu,Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University's Engineering School, andJonathan Viventi, Assistant Professor of electrical and computer engineering at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, have been named by Popular Science magazine as two of “The Brilliant 10.” As a bioengineer at New York University’s Polytechnic School of Engineering, Viventi designs electrode arrays that make exceptionally detailed recordings of brain activity and may transform the way scientists understand neurological disorders. He’s developed a minimally invasive brain sensor with applications for people with epilepsy and for high-performance motor prosthetics for paralyzed patients. Geambasu builds software that allows people to see where the information they upload to the cloud goes. Other programs she’s designed make data self-destruct after a set period of time, help users track what information they’ve entered where, and limit data breaches from lost or stolen phones.
