WNYC held its 10th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at the Apollo Theater this weekend, co-hosted by WNYC hosts Jami Floyd and Brian Lehrer.
Presented as part of the Apollo Uptown Hall series, this year's event focused on disparity in America by looking at the impact of institutional racism while exploring race and privilege.
Hear an excerpt from our #WNYCMLK event: first, an interview about white privilege with journalist, filmmaker, and immigration activist Jose Antonio Vargas.
The interview is followed by an excerpt from a panel discussion about personal agency, with the following guests:
- Dr. Eddie Glaude: chair at Princeton University
- Rokhaya Diallo: writer, journalist, film director and activist
- Taylor Branch: author and historian best known for his award-winning book trilogy The King Era, which chronicles the Civil Rights movement and life of Martin Luther King, Jr.
