Working The 'Dead Beat'

The new documentary "Obit" follows The New York Times obituary desk.

Director Vanessa Gould joins us to discuss her new documentary, “Obit,” along with Bruce Weber, a former New York Times reporter who wrote obituaries for eight years. “Obit” explores what it's like to work the "dead beat" as a reporter. In Weber’s words, “The Times is becoming the last place in American journalism where acknowledgements of worthy lives and newsworthy lives can be acknowledged.”

"Obit" opens April 26 at Film Forum and the Lincoln Plaza Cinemas.
