Brooklyn Maqam presents Zahra & Friends at The Sultan Room

The Iraqi-born singer Zahra Alzubaidi grew up in Jordan, and is now based here in New York. She’s appeared in the Brian De Palma film Redacted, but is probably best known in the Arabic-speaking community here for her singing. Zahra’s repertoire includes songs from all over the near East, including songs by the great Egyptian stars like Oum Kalthum; but her primary focus is on the various styles of folk, wedding, and dance music from Iraq. Zahra Alzubaidi and Friends play on July 5 at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn.
