Zinzi Clemmons discusses her novel, What We Lose. It tells the story of Thandi, a young woman who was raised by her South African mother in Pennsylvania. Clemmon's story explores the theme of motherhood, looking at Thandi's relationship with her own mother as well as how she comes to terms with an unexpected pregnancy.
