Inspired by vintage doodle books, our challenge gives you a fragment of a drawing to complete any way you’d like. Alison Bechdel, the noted cartoonist and winner of the MacArthur Fellowship (a.k.a. the genius grant), provided this doodle as a starting point; the rest is up to you.
UPDATE 11/22: Carolita Johnson is the winner of our challenge!
See the winning submission and the runners up. Thanks to everyone who shared their work with us!

I painted the woman and bird this year and thought the addition of the doodle drawing echoed my figure and added extra whimsy to both artworks.

I was going for a bit of existential horror from the original figure at seeing she's just a piece of a much larger machine.
I made a short video of me drawing the piece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf3B1MCdLoQ&list=UUAVDIZCWHjw7wmDtfI0dZ8Q

Kind of Dali-esq (or Dr. Strange comic book like) with time slipping away and holding on with a look of desperation.
She's holding on to the watch, perched on an hour glass. "Hang Time"

There are few challenges more daunting in this world than assembling reasonably-priced Scandinavian furniture.

The idea is the struggle of a young, creative woman trying to climb out of the established, school-taught library of male American authors... the books are dangerously heavy and haphazardly piled - it's scary and takes courage and ingenuity.

This submission is inspired by Charlie Chaplin's "Modern Times" and was created on my hall duty while teaching high school (I had my class participate as well!) I animated creating it here: https://vine.co/v/OeJlvaZ2zMd.

I recently had a doctor's visit where I was encouraged to implement a low carb diet. Then, I discovered how extraordinarily difficult that is. I thought I'd incorporate a bit of that situation into my submission.

My hometown is the port of the famous old schooner, the Adventuress It was built at the Rice Brothers Yard in East Boothbay, Maine and was launched in 1913, so it just celebrated its 100-year birthday! It is on the National Historic Register, and is owned and operated by the non-profit Sound Experience. Her original owner, John Borden II, of Chicago, commissioned the vessel for his personal use to embark on an Arctic expedition to collect specimens for the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The Adventuress came north to Seattle in 1952 and today serves as the flagship of Sound Experience which is dedicated to the protection of Puget Sound through educational expeditions. It has become an icon for environmental awareness and stewardship. For many families in the Pacific Northwest, generations of children climb aboard for the adventure of their life, sailing in the San Juan Islands off the Strait of Juan de Fuca, learning about marine life, sailing and how to be a part of a team -- at sea! They face fears and challenges and have much fun under the guidance of some of the most incredible crew to ever sail the seas. Everyone is given the opportunity to "climb the shrouds" as depicted in this scene, or scramble to the end of the bow sprit. And yes, they step off that schooner with a different outlook on what they can do! This is only what I thought maybe my niece, Maddy and nephew Rex, might have thought before they jumped into their harness to make their way up to the cross tree.

I like the idea of some huge alien troll figure being attracted to a small human woman that he puts in his hair. Done on a sketch pad with a pen and color pencils.

Spent time in Nepal and heard many Yeti stories from the local Sherpas. Came to mind when I started looking at the image.

I doodle during meetings. I doodle while watching television. I don't draw, I just doodle.

This will probably be my last submission unless I get another chance to print out the image (I want to work on physical papers since I doodle on my commutes).
This doodle depicts the world where heads are connected and headless people are suffering from their lonely, isolated status. Or, this is actually a nonesense comment as I wasn't really thinking about anything as for the storyworld nor how I am going to complete this doodle. So, I shall say, this is a doodle about floating astonished faces and dancing headless bodies.
