My 15 year old daughter made this stunning hair clip after she had seen them in a boutique for nearly $40. We live on a Lavender Farm in central NJ and we raise chickens and Guinea Fowl. They have beautiful feathers that end up all over their coop, in the case of the chickens, and under the trees that the Guinea Fowl roost in. She collects the feathers and washes them and soaks them in rubbing alcohol to make sure they are free from anything funky. She cuts a piece of heavy felt (less than $.25) and cuts 2 slits in it to thread a large barrette (12 for $1.00) and then she glues the feathers to the felt.
The one pictured is made primarily from our Guinea fowl Carl's feathers and from Alberta our late Polish crested chicken.
While the materials probably cost less than a dollar the feeling of pride and accomplishment my young teen has in making something so fabulous is PRICELESS!
