Kota Ezawa Brings Nature to Madison Square Park

Features | Mar 30, 2011

Starting Thursday, there will be a little more nature in Madison Square Park. Artist Kota Ezawa's six minute short film "City of Nature" will be on display on screens in the park for visitors to take in through May 15. Ezawa used his signature style, combining digital animation with freehand drawing to reinterpret nature scenes from films like "Brokeback Mountain," "Lord of the Flies" and "Fitzcarraldo."

The film is what he calls a "video collage," using tiny bits of each film that are sometimes just a few seconds long. Ezawa said his project is an alternative to a typical nature film and hopes that it will invite park-goers into a conversation about the evolution of nature within the confines of New York City.
