Take A Dive into the WNYC Archives
About
Established in 2000 by its former Director, Andy Lanset, the New York Public Radio (NYPR) Archives is the caretaker of over a century of NYPR content. The department is the centralized physical and digital repository for hundreds of thousands of assets produced by WNYC, WQXR, and NYPR from the 1920s to today. The Archives’ collection includes audiovisual recordings, photographs, production documents, program guides, institutional records, promotional materials, and more. Of note is the Archives’ audio collection, whose range of formats represents over one hundred years of recording technology, including transcription discs, analog tape, digital tape, optical discs, digital file formats, and more.
Through a program of collecting, arrangement, description, media reformatting, and asset management, the Archives’ staff strives to preserve and give access to the rich history of New York Public Radio to its staff, as well as to its global audience of researchers, producers, and listeners. For questions about the New York Public Radio Archives and its collection, please request archive material here or email us at archiverequest@nypublicradio.org.
