The Ridgewood, Queens performance space The Silent Barn hosts the Whitehaus Family Record on Friday night, a D.I.Y. collective of some 20 musicians and bands from Jamaica Plain, Mass.

In the past five years, the Whitehaus has held weekly arts performances in its eight-bedroom house in J.P. The music collective (and residence) aims to create a space that's “sustainable and safe, devoid of social competition, and pushing the boundaries of consciousness, experience and thought.” Albums and poetry made by Whitehaus residents are distributed under the collective's own independent music label.

Among the Whitehaus groups slated for Friday night’s gig at Silent Barn are the Chris North Dream Quartet; Morgan Shaker; Gracious Calamity; Welcome Home; Peace, Loving; Manners; B. Law; Casey Rocheteau; Jimmy Hughes; Many Mansions and Hurricanes of Love. "The Architects of Love and Forgiveness" by the Chris North Dream Quartet is a stripped-down ballad with psychedelic sounds that the group further explores on The Story of My Light, an EP out on June 9.

"Power Tools," which you can download below, is by another Whitehaus group--the experimental sound-sculpture, jazz band Peace, Loving. The band is a revolving door of industrial strength performers with a varying array of backgrounds.
