When asked to describe his music, post-classical pianist and composer Dustin O’Halloran once said, “Lots of blues, reds, mixed violet, some white spaces, a few black patches and rust-colored brown.” Maybe it's just O’Hallorans synesthesia talking, but there’s a lot that makes sense about describing his textured minimalist works in terms of color. Besides a childhood of piano lessons, O’Halloran’s musical was dominated by playing guitar in the rock band Devics. He rediscovered the piano in 2003, and has since released several albums of pretty instrumental music and scored several films, including Sofia Coppola’s "Marie Antoinette." “We Move Lightly” comes off O’Halloran's most recent release, Lumiere. It places spectral strings and distant echoes over O’Halloran’s repeating ‘piano line, sounding something like nostalgia, contemplation, and, yes, rust-colored brown.
