Polar pop? Arctic electric? Those are some terms being used to describe the music of the Inuit indie-pop songstress and filmmaker Elisapie Issac. Issac was raised in an isolated community in Nunavik, the chilly Canadian Inuit homeland. In her music, she sings in Inuit, French and English. But make no mistake, this isn’t world music made up of watered-down traditional fusions. Elisapie’s new album There Will Be Stars is less polar, more pop: it's beautifully produced, slow-tempo songs full of orchestral strings and reverbed-out guitars. Visitors to The Living Room on Wednesday will get an updated and melancholic take on '60s pop that would shine in any language.
