Weiner's Wife Huma Returns Home Amid Growing Calls for Rep.'s Resignation
The wife of embattled Congressman Anthony Weiner returned to her Washington, D.C., home Wednesday amid a chorus of politicians calling for her scandal-scarred husband to step down this week. Â
Wife Huma Abedin returned home from a trip to Africa with her boss Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Weiner is on a temporary leave of absence from Congress in treatment for an undisclosed disorder.
Weiner confessed last Monday that he was the one responsible for sending a lewd photo of himself to a college student on Twitter but stopped short of resigning from his post. He originally claimed his Twitter account had been hacked.
Since then, several additional lewd photos have surfaced in which the Congressman once thought of as a frontrunner for the 2013 mayoral race is allegedly depicted.
President Barack Obama said in an interview with NBC that aired Tuesday that if he were in Weiner's place, he would resign, calling the behavior "highly inappropriate."
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has called for an ethics investigation to determine whether Weiner violated any House rules. Last Saturday she said Weiner should resign.
