Rep. Anthony Weiner Resigns
Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned Thursday amid growing calls by Democratic colleagues for him to step down 10 days after he first confessed to having sexually charged online relationships with several women.
Since Weiner confessed last Monday to sending a lewd photo of himself to a college student on Twitter, several more images have surfaced in which the Congressman once thought of as a frontrunner for the 2013 mayoral race is allegedly depicted.
President Barack Obama said in an interview with NBC that aired Tuesday that if he were in Weiner's place, he would resign, calling the behavior "highly inappropriate."
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has called for an ethics investigation to determine whether Weiner violated any House rules. Last Saturday she said Weiner should resign.
The Congressman's wife, Huma Abedin, has not publicly commented on her husband's confession. The former White House intern and current aide to Hillary Clinton returned to her Washington, D.C., home Wednesday from work-related trip to Africa.
