Sarah Palin Says She's Not Running for President

It's A Free Country | Oct 5, 2011

Former Alaska Governor and Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin will not be tossing her hat into the GOP presidential ring. On Wednesday, Palin said she will not run for president.

In a statement provided to the Mark Levin show, she said that she and her husband Todd "devote ourselves to God, family and country," and that her decision will maintain that order.

Palin said she can be more effective helping to get other public servants elected into office. "We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the 'fundamental transformation' of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law."

She also said she would not see a third party nomination.

The decision was anticipated, but not surprising. Her summer bus tour hinted at a possible run, but recently her popularity had plummeted in the polls. Some Republicans believed she waited and teased too long about a potential candidacy. while others questioned her decision to leave her job as governor with more than a year left in her term.

Her decision, plus New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's announcement that he will not seek the nominee, means the eventual GOP presidential nominee will come from the current field of candidates, which includes former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry.
