Amy Winehouse Wanted to Settle Down, Have Kids

The father of late songstress Amy Winehouse said his daughter was planning to have children with her boyfriend before her life was tragically cut short last year.

Speaking on WNYC’s Leonard Lopate Show on Wednesday, Mitch Winehouse said that the 27-year-old soulful singer was “delighted” when she was told her she was physically able to have children a year after she became sober.

“They were trying to have children and they would have got married too,” Winehouse said of his daughter and her boyfriend Reg Traviss, who she was with for 18 months.

“Physically she couldn’t have children at that point, and when she could have children — which was later on and she was clear of drugs after about a year or so — she was delighted,” he said.

The Grammy Award-winning “Rehab” singer had a history of substance abuse before her alcohol-related death in London last year. She was introduced to drugs by jailed former flame Blake Fiedler-Civil.

Winehouse said he blamed Fiedler-Civil for his daughter’s addiction, but not her death.

“He’s certainly not responsible for her death,” Winehouse said. “He wouldn’t want her to die. In terms of her Class-A drug situation, he introduced her to that.”

Coping with Amy’s addition was difficult for the family, he said. Winehouse said he couldn’t give his daughter tough love.

“Some people can adopt the tough approach, and I can’t. I couldn’t abandon my daughter,” he said. “We tried to protect her in the best way that we could.”
