Capsized Long Island Yacht Raised from Bay

FBI divers and New York police retrieved a boat that sank in Long Island Sound, killing three children on July 4.

It was raised the 34-foot Kandi Won from about 60 feet below the surface of the water.

They went into the 60-degree waters off Oyster Bay Wednesday morning. Due to strong currents, they have to be vigilant so they don't get caught under the boat. The divers ran into difficulty Tuesday in the murky waters.

The yacht capsized following a fireworks display. There were 10 children and 17 adults on board at the time.

Investigators are hoping that getting the yacht back on land will assist their investigation into how it capsized. Nassau Detective Lt. John Azzata said examining the vessel is a key component to determining a possible cause for the accident.

Police are trying to determine if the boat was overcrowded. They also hope to learn if the vessel had enough life jackets for every passenger.
