#3207: The Latin Groove
This New Sounds program is one devoted to the Latin Groove, especially the cumbia rhythms that we’ll hear in several pieces on this show. We’ll begin in Argentina with Chancha via Circuito, the alter ego of producer Pedro Canale, who enjoys chopping up and then mixing folk guitar, flutes, and Coke-bottle percussion to make retrofitted cumbia for the clubs.
Then, from Roberto Carlos Lange, a Florida-based producer of Ecuadorian descent whose nom de disque is Helado Negro, (“Black Ice”) a bit more electro-folk. Also there’s music by Watcha Clan, from a record called Radio Babel, which is a mix of all kinds of musical languages, and a mingling European, North African and Middle Eastern sounds. Plus the Argentinian electro-folk of singer-songwriter Juana Molina, and more.
