AG Schneiderman Still Looking for New Powers from Cuomo

Not long ago, then-attorney general Andrew Cuomo pushed for greater prosecutorial power to confront political corruption. But as governor, Cuomo hasn’t been quick handing over greater authority to the current AG, Eric Schneiderman.

Schneiderman would like more power to prosecute corruption and oversee the legislature. But the governor’s bill doesn’t specifically address that.

"This is something that applies to anyone who prosecutes bribery, whether it's my office or a district attorney's office or anyone who prosecutes defrauding the government,” he said.

Schneiderman says he’s spoke with Cuomo about broadening the role of his office and awaits the governor's future reforms.
