On the program we explore nternational music festivals, travel and politics, and we're treated to a live performance by the Shanghai String Quartet.
Last week, the U. S government denied visas to ten Iranian musicians scheduled to perform in a U.S. premiere production of the Iranian passion play, Ta'ziyeh in this summer’s Lincoln Center Festival. Mohammad Ghaffari, director of Ta’ziyeh, joins John in the studio to update us on the situation. And John speaks with Nigel Redden, director of the Festival, as well as the World Music Institute’s Robert Browning, about the politics of coordinating international performance festivals. And the Shanghai String Quartet performs live in the studio in advance of their upcoming concert featuring the works by Wolf, Beethoven and Chausson.
