New and Improved

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
Today on Soundcheck, we look at the evolution of contemporary-music performances and their growing sense of user-friendliness. We look at the Nine Circles Chamber Theatre, a new company that merges the boundaries between opera and chamber music, and whose latest multimedia production juxtaposes music by Prokofiev, Bruce Saylor, and Mel Marvin with the poetry of Dante and Anna Akhmatova. Also, Todd Reynolds, composer and violinist of the string quartet Ethel, gives us an update on his genre-crossing activities. And music writer Danny Felsenfeld drops by to review a new CD featuring highlights from the ONCE Festival, which took place in Ann Arbor, Michigan between 1961-1966, and was one of the most exciting and important festivals in the early days of cutting-edge electronic music.
