Just (Re)do It

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
As the lead singer of the '80s folk-rock band the New Bohemians, Edie Brickell was better known for her carefree image and chirpy voice. Fifteen years later, her voice has matured and her songwriting reflects a newfound introspection. Brickell joins host John Schaefer to talk about the art of the comeback. Speaking of career reinventions, we welcome the Contrasts Quartet. Once known as the Eberli Ensemble, the group changed its name, its instrumentation (to clarinet, strings, and piano) and its repertoire (from Baroque to contemporary). The enterprising chamber ensemble arrives at Merkin Hall next week with a program that includes a world premiere by Derek Bermel and a New York premiere by Aaron Jay Kernis.
