The Big Think-Off

Two of the more thoughtful personalities on the classical music scene join us today. David Robertson is among the most talked-about American conductors on the scene today, regularly praised for his inventive programming and energetic stage presence. He has been a particularly visible presence at the New York Philharmonic lately, and appears with the orchestra again this week. He joins us today on Soundcheck. We’re also visited by pianist, and scholar Charles Rosen, who, in his latest New York Review of Books article, discusses how the marketplace dictates how culture is disseminated. Having made his debut at Town Hall in New York in 1953, Rosen has more than 50 years' worth of performance history as well as some strong opinions about the current precarious state of classical music.
