Since his early days as frontman for the Talking Heads, David Byrne has led a fruitful career as a solo musician, photographer, writer and head of Luaka Bop, the world-music label he founded in 1988. His polymath musical interests come together on his Nonesuch debut CD "Grown Backwards," which features an eclectic mix of intimate songs in which his voice takes center stage. He joins host John Schaefer to discuss his songwriting methods and more. Also on the show, WNYC cultural reporter Judith Kampfner stops by to preview Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd," the music-theater masterpiece that opened New York City Opera's spring season last week.
