World on a String

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
Last week, classical-music power couple David Finckel, cellist of the Emerson String Quartet, and Wu Han, the globe-trotting pianist, were named the new artistic directors of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Known for their entrepreneurial ways—they’ve started their own record label and a music festival called Music@Menlo—they join us to discuss their plans for the august Society. We also visit with singer Angélique Kidjo, similarly known for an entrepreneurial streak as well as a gutsy voice and charismatic stage presence. Her latest album "Oaya!" highlights the links between the West African traditions of her native Benin and Caribbean music from salsa and meringue to ska.
