They Will Rock You
Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
The story of the band Wilco and how its fourth record, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot," was rejected by record label execs for "commercial" reasons then picked up by another label, has become a cause celebre among fans and critics since it broke three years ago. For that reason, their follow-up disc, "A Ghost Is Born," is one of the most anticipated releases of 2004. Still, the group has encountered its share of problems lately, from addictions to several defections of members. They join us today to discuss why the band continues to flourish and they perform selections from the new album in the WNYC performance studio. Also on the show, New Yorker pop critic Sasha Frere-Jones, who reviews new CDs by The Streets and teen pop sensation-turned veteran artist, Brandy.
