Most classical CD guides treat 20th century music almost as a footnote – something to dabble in after you invest in your Beethoven and Schubert. But New York Times music critic Allan Kozinn takes another approach. He’s just authored “The New York Times Essential Library: Classical Music: A Critic's Guide to the 100 Most Important Recordings,” which not only features the expected classical masterpieces but also a long list of contemporary works. What’s more, it’s highly readable and free of the jargon that plagues many recording guides. He joins us to share some selections.
