Reggae Nation

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
Reggae. It's no longer just about Jamaican politics and smoking pot in dorm rooms. We'll take the pulse of contemporary reggae, from the Hasidic Jewish reggae star Matisyahu to the latest in ska, dub, and other styles. Also: trumpeter and bandleader Wallace Roney takes up residence at the Village Vanguard this week. We'll talk with him about his fusing acoustic and electronic elements in traditional jazz. And, James Levine the Music and Artistic Director of the Metropolitan Opera is still recovering after taking a tumble as he left the stage at the end of a concert. Will he take the podium again? We have an update with New York Times arts reporter Daniel J. Wakin.
