#4116: New Electronic Music
Hear new electronic music from Moscow-based electronic musician Kate NV, Swiss-Nepalese-Tibetan musician Aisha Devi, Montreal–based Kara-Lis Coverdale from, along with music by Rival Consoles, & more.
Russian synth futurist and sound sculptor Kate Shilonosova, aka Kate NV, produces surreal and somewhat whimsical still lifes with everyday sounds that extend into soundscapes. Hear her percussive and a little goofy piece, “Dog” from her recent release “для FOR.” Then, listen to music from Swiss musician Aisha Devi who channels her Nepalese-Tibetan heritage into spiritual and visceral synthscapes that belie off-world rituals.
Hear electronic music from Montreal-based composer Kara-Lis Coverdale - “X 4Ewi” - from her Aftertouches release, which floats effortlessly from an organ loft to bioluminescence. Coverdale’s time as an organist may or may not have anything to do with the way that churchy voices seep slowly into the piece’s conclusion.
Listen to music that looks back to earlier electronic works, including music made exclusively using the Buchla 200e and Music Easel electronic music systems from American record producer and engineer Beau Sorenson, aka Beaunoise. There’s also by UK producer Rival Consoles, which might hearken to Brian Eno or Vangelis, and uses warm and human analogue-heavy synthesizers, along with acoustic and electric instruments.
Plus hear music by Visible Cloaks, the duo of Portland-based musicians Spencer Doran and Ryan Carlile, which might inhabit similar soundworld to Japanese and Italian electronic pop and ambient artists of the mid-80s. That, and more.
