Hear processed music by Montreal-based composer and sound-manipulator Tim Hecker, and fellow Montrealer violinist and sound artist Jessica Moss, along with music from Irish-led, New York-based group Spirit Spout.
Listen to music that began as Japanese gagaku instruments (drone, reeds, and gongs) and has been stretched and sculpted into what could be haunting sirens, insects, and saws - all co-existing in a paper forest- from Canadian composer Tim Hecker and his recent release Konoyo. Hear new music from Ghost Forest, the new collaborative record by singer and guitarist Meg Baird and harpist Mary Lattimore, although the harp might be really hard to recognize due to the effects on it.
There’s also new work using processed sound sourced from woodwinds and brass instruments, by the L.A.-based producer, composer, and sound designer Deru, aka Benjamin Wynn, from his latest record, Torn in Two. Then, sample new electronically enhanced work from the forthcoming record by Montreal-based violinist, composer, singer, and sound artist, Jessica Moss (Thee Silver Mt. Zion). Sourced from violin, her framework is quantum theory, and it’s not a stretch to imagine accelerating particles or a warp in the space-time continuum with the sounds she has created.
Listen to stretched and shaped Delta Blues sourced from what is most likely guitar from West Yorkshire-based singer, guitarist, piano player, and a visual artist, Bridget Hayden. Plus, hear music from the Irish-led, New York-based super-group Spirit Spout, spearheaded by composer, bassist, and guitarist Simon Jermyn from Ireland and featuring composer, saxophonist, guitarist, and producer David Crowell (Empyrean Atlas), along with drum wizard Jim Black, vocalist Iarla O'Lionard, and drummer, producer, and composer Joseph Branciforte (Cellar and Point.) - Caryn Havlik
